You may or may not have heard that Central Ohio Panera Bread is sponsoring a week of random acts of kindness in Columbus. While Panera has already listed their top 15 ways to “Panera It Forward”, here’s 15 ways to be kind to your fellow student this week.

College Acts Of Kindness
1.) Swipe a stranger in for lunch.
2.) Go to the library and asked for an unpaid fine to pay.
3.) Let someone else have the good parking spot.
4.) Hold the door when someone has too many books.
5.) Break the unwritten computer lab law and sit with someone who’s by themselves.
6.) Pay for the coffee of the guy who’s behind you in line.
7.) Tell the janitor how much you appreciate him/her.
8.) Send a friend from home a card just to let them know you still think about them.
9.) Don’t just do your own dishes, tackle your roommate’s too.
10.) In the dorms, leave a message of encouragement on someone’s white board, you know they all have them.
11.)Wipe off the snow on the car next to yours.
12.)Give your family a call, you know they miss you.
13.)Write a note to your professor about the guy in class that has been saving your lazy butt all quarter/semester.
14.)Let your RA know that when he/she busts you, you know they’re just doing their job and you don’t hold it against them.
15.) To steal one from Panera… Share your smile!

Coffee Break!

I spend a lot of my time split between Downtown Columbus and Uptown Westerville. Downtown because I love being in the big city, and Uptown because its just a short skip from my house and my college campus. As winter quarter drags on, I’ve been finding myself more and more in need of that extra caffeine boost and in each area I have my hot spot.

The Kickstart Some things naturally belong together; like peanut butter and jelly, or bacon and eggs, and of course coffee and scooters? Chris Cannon, owner and idea man behind The Kickstart, definitely thinks so and with his creative promotional ideas and his wife Jody by his side, the coffee house/scooter store has thrived in its first year.

This place is bad for me because I’ve always wanted a scooter and it gives me a great excuse to go and drool over their pretty decent sized assortment of scooters. But scooter-drooling aside, their specialty drinks are even more drool-worthy. The crackerjack latte is a particular favorite along with the sticky bun latte. And for you DJ Moxy fans, there’s always the DJ Moxy latte.

Serendipity Icecream and Coffee House
As for Serendipity, they have a similar story with the amrried couple owners, Debby and Jeff. As one of the few 20-something friendly places in Westerville, you get the vibe the moment you walk in. The staff are incredibly laid back and instead of having a list of specialties, they challenge you to be just a little more creative, i.e. you tell them what to put in the cup and they do it.

Welcome to my blog! My name is Kelsey Kay Sommers and I am a junior Public Relations major at Otterbein College. In the year and a half that I have been in Central Ohio I have fallen in love with its culture. Coming from a farm town with one blinking red light and no gas station, I’m finding new and exciting things that I think other college students will enjoy too. Join me as I continue to discover Columbus!
